A day in the life with RWP housing officer Cheryl

Latest news

RWP housing officer Cheryl recently visited homes in Nottingham and completed annual reviews, health and safety inspections. She also took time to check in with tenants and support staff, and helped with the moving out process.

Annual review with support manager Samantha

Cheryl met with support manager at Eden Futures, Samantha, to run through the plan of action for the annual review. Discussions covered the completion of paperwork to update tenants details and approach to the walk-around to assess any work that was required.

Cheryl and Samantha discussed the cellar door as the report flagged that there was an issue with the cellar door, and it presented as a risk. They both walked around the property and inspected the cellar. In the garden, Samantha flagged an issue she had noticed with the paving slabs which presented a health and safety risk for tenants and staff, and enquired about the best cause of action to fix the damage. Cheryl advised on the next steps, who would be best to carry out the work, and took photos of the paving slabs as well as fencing that required maintenance work.

Checking in with tenant Ian

Cheryl had a chat with Ian, and they reviewed his experience in his supported living home as he will be making the move to his own flat which will be a more independent living arrangement. “Ian is going to a flat of his own and we are just waiting for the repairs and decorating to be completed. You have known me for three years now,” says Cheryl.

Ian explains that Cheryl has supported him over the years with developing his communication skills and managing his behaviour in the local community. During past visits, Cheryl has helped by listening to matters that have upset Ian, talking through any issues, and worked with him to put a plan of action in place. Ian has achieved a fantastic milestone and has stopped drinking, he is able to manage his medication, and feels more independent.

Support manager Samantha and Cheryl review the progress that Ian has made over the years. “So, you have been doing lots of learning, doing things differently, and you are doing really well,” said Samantha. Cheryl added: “You have got your life skills, and we are really proud of you. We do our best to enable you to live your best life.”

Ian is looking forward to cooking in his new home as support staff have helped him to develop cooking skills. He is proud of his new skills, including making a cup of tea for himself, support staff, and visitors. Ian thanked Cheryl for her support and welcomed her to visit him in his new home. “You are welcome to come and see me,” Ian said.
