Annette’s blog: visiting a supported living home with housing officer Sarah

Latest news

Annette Stevens, Operations Director, at RWP recently visited an RWP supported living home in Preston with housing officer, Sarah.

Visiting RWP tenants in Preston

“It was a lovely sunny day when I arrived at the supported living home in Preston to observe Sarah undertake a review visit. The purpose of this visit was to check that our tenants have everything they need to be independent, safe, and happy and to see if the property is being maintained to a high standard.

Meeting the tenants and support staff

At the visit, Sarah introduced herself to tenants and support staff, and everyone looked happy to see her. All of the tenants were at home, so it was great to meet them all. Whilst we were there, the house was filled with lovely cooking smells as lunch was being prepared. The house was still decorated with Easter decorations that the tenants had crafted, which was nice to see.

Health and safety checks

Sarah carried out a health and safety check, such as the fire doors. During this check, she spotted an outstanding job in the back garden. Part of the garden needed to be landscaped where decking had recently been removed. When this work is completed, the tenants can enjoy their outdoor space. Sarah also spotted a drain cover needed to be added the accessible shower. The fittings and gardening work will be reported by Sarah and followed up, and the support staff will all receive a copy of the visit outcomes.

Sarah checked the health and safety files to ensure checks are being undertaken regularly, such as fire drills. She chatted to the support worker, Natasha, who told us that she had worked at the property for six years. Sarah told me that this was really positive, as many of her properties have support staff that change regularly, which can be an upheaval for tenants.

Reflecting on the successful visit

It was good to see that the property is spacious and that it had three bathrooms, which meant we’re meeting the tenants’ needs. There is lots of room for the tenants to enjoy their home. I noted that Sarah was professional, polite, and very thorough. I really enjoyed seeing our tenants and meeting the support staff.  A huge thank you to Sarah for her valuable work with our tenants.”
