Brighter garden space in Sutton
Latest news
RWP caretaker Nigel has been working on an exciting garden project at one of our supported living homes in Sutton, South London. Here Nigel talks about the success of the garden project.
Garden maintenance
“The tenants at one of the supported living homes in Sutton have severe learning difficulties and around half of them are wheelchair bound. The tenants enjoy the garden all year round with BBQ's and parties, however most of the tenants and their visitors can only be out in the sun for short periods. The garden was a bit run down and in need of a good clean and tidy.
Deep clean and tidy
“In the interest of giving them the best summer yet, I jet washed the whole garden area, the path the patio and the furniture to make everything sparkle. I trimmed the bushes right back and reduced the branches to make room for the wheelchairs.
Gazebo gift
“With the help of a gift from progress group we were able to fit a large gazebo. RWP handyman Graham helped us to assemble the gazebo in the garden. This will make the world of difference to the tenants who suffer in the sun and their guest's allowing the parties to continue. They also plan to use the gazebo as an outside cinema with their projector and screen."
The tenants themselves are mostly non-verbal however the support staff from Choice Support commented: “It is wonderful to have this, it looks like something you would get married in.”
