Cultural and Community Celebration event in Leyland

Involved tenants David and Simon joined in with activities and celebrations at the Cultural and Community Celebration event in Leyland, Lancashire.
RWP is part of Progress Housing Group, and its Customer Voice Team recently organised a cultural event to celebrate our wonderful and diverse community in Leyland, Lancashire. The event was opened by the High Sheriff of Lancashire, Jim Carter, and Mayor of South Ribble, Peter Mullineaux, along with Progress Housing Group Chief Executive Jacqui De-Rose.
Some of our tenants were involved, including RWP involved tenant David, who was showing people his collection of model airplanes. At Preston Pride last year, David was inspired by the inclusive rugby team Typhoons RUFC (which Progress Housing Group sponsors), and he had made a Eurofighter model aircraft to present to the team. He told us: “I started getting interested in model planes when I was younger and would see airplanes flying over all the time. Seeing all the news stories about the Gulf War and the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain got me into it even more and it developed from there.
“I thought it was interesting that the Typhoons rugby club didn't have a model Eurofighter aircraft, so I made one to display in one of their cabinets to be enjoyed by all the players, staff, and fans. I hope it brings inspiration and enjoyment for everyone who sees it.”
Nathan, founding Member of the Typhoons RUFC said: “A big thank you to David. It is a lovely gift, and we will be putting it on display in our clubhouse for everyone to see.”
RWP involved tenant Simon also attended the cultural event. He enjoyed spending time with people he knew at the event. “The Leyland community event was most enjoyable. I was very happy to see people that I knew there, and the Morris dancers were most entertaining,” says Simon.
