Emeric learns how to paint with New Build Maintenance

Latest news

Emeric, who lives in one of our supported living homes in Surrey, helps the New Build Maintenance team with painting. He supervises the team’s work, learns how to paint, and enjoys helping to paint in his home.

New Build Maintenance has recently been completing work to the annex at one of our supported living homes in Surrey. This involved changing the shower room and kitchen and carrying out some decorating. Here Dan Searle, Customer Account Manager at New Build Maintenance, shares how the operatives carrying out the work supported Emeric to get involved, learn new skills, and help to brighten his home.

“We were told that the tenant Emeric would be decamped for the duration, and we are also carrying out further works to the property. However, due to an issue with a flight being cancelled he came back to the property early.

“Normally we would not have carried out the works, but Emeric was very interested in what we were doing, and he asked to assist the team. After showing him what he needed to do to paint walls we offered him the chance to help paint a wall and he jumped at it.

“He was supervised constantly, and we made sure he was wearing PPE. As you can see from his face in the photo, he thoroughly enjoyed himself. The operatives shared that Emeric is a nice man and was a great help.

“Now that he knows us and trusts us, he has allowed us to move some of his thing. This is a big step as this was one of the reasons that he was going to be decamped, and it means the works will be completed on time.

Will, support manager at Achieve Together, shares his praise for the New Build team for involving Emeric with the work. He said: “It was lovely for them to have involved Emeric for the two days that he was here before going away. They are a group of brilliant lads. It was nice to see.”
