RWP has been working in partnership with a variety of voluntary and statutory organisations to help raise awareness of supported living, address challenges, and explore potential solutions.
Midlands MHLDA Inpatient Quality Transformation Programme
RWP’s Director of Housing Operations Annette Stevens and RWP’s Director of Growth and Partnerships Nicola Byrne led discussions at the Housing and Accommodation event for the Midlands MHLDA Inpatient Quality Transformation Programme in October 2024. The NHS Long Term Plan has a strong focus on improving the quality of community care for people with mental health conditions, including people with a learning disability and autistic people.
“We joined a panel of multi-agency partners from NHS England and local authority commissioners, discussing strategies to reduce the impact of housing challenges and supported living on patient flow.
One of the outcomes of the event is to develop an implementation programme which will run alongside 3-year strategic plans. Over the next 3 years, we are looking to collaborate with local authorities and commissioners to increase the number of people with mental health needs, including those with a learning disability or autism, moving into supported living and being supported in their local community,” says Nicola Byrne.

Labour Party Conference 2024
Les Warren, Managing Director at RWP, joined the panel discussion on ‘building the right support’ at the Labour party conference in Liverpool last September, organised by the Voluntary Organisations Disability Group. Organisations from across the sector came together to share best practice and innovation to help stop and prevent people with a learning disability from being detained in long-stay units.
“I was pleased to have been invited to join the panel discussion on ‘building the right support’ at the Labour party conference in Liverpool. I joined Rhidian Hughes, Sir Stephen Timms MP, and Jen Craft MP discussing this topic, and shared perspectives as a housing provider.
“We had some insightful questions and contributions from the audience, as well as the panel. I offered some reflections on the supply and funding for supported living, innovation and partnerships in the sector and importantly, asks of the new government,” says Les Warren.
Best practice and benchmarking
Carina Lynch, Head of Performance and Planning at RWP, spearheads the transformation for RWP and is always open to sharing learning within the housing sector and understanding emerging innovation that can help improve the customer experience.
“2024 was a fantastic year for maximising events and conferences across the housing sector. Attending the first Housing Summit held by the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) and the National Housing Federation was ideal for networking with peers and exploring other ways of working. The Learning Disability and Autism Housing Network (LDAHN) along with similar forums continue to provide excellent insight into how we can benchmark with others and identify any areas on which to focus. This helps us to continue to be a leading provider for supported housing, while joining forces on common challenges our tenants face.
2025 will bring fresh ideas and perspective. I am particularly looking forward to hosting my first external round table. It will focus on how we can make best use of our housing management system to improve income collection processes,” says Carina.
