Safeguarding process for RWP housing team

Latest news

RWP housing manager Lyndsey shares how she works in partnership with housing officers, internal teams, local authorities, and external agencies in order to keep tenants safe.

At Progress Housing Group, which RWP is part of, a robust safeguarding process is in place. Professional practice is always followed by housing officers when a safeguarding concern is raised.

RWP housing manager Lyndsey outlines what the safeguarding process looks like in practice for the housing team, including housing managers and officers.

What is the safeguarding process at RWP? Here is a step by step example of a safeguarding case.

  1. A tenant reports a concern to his cleaner which indicates that he may have potentially been financially abused. There are also concerns around sexual exploitation and mate crime. The cleaner shares this safeguarding concern with our caretaker
  2. Details of the safeguarding concern are shared with Progress Housing Group’s Safeguarding Review Group
  3. Progress Housing Group’s Safeguarding Review Group open an internal safeguarding log
  4. The housing officer communicates with the tenant about his concerns. The tenant who has full capacity does not want to get involved.
  5. The housing team obtains advice from No Whispers on the case. No Whispers delivers training and awareness in child sexual exploitation, child criminal exploitation and county lines. It is mutually agreed that it is best to raise the safeguarding alert with the local authority, because the tenant was previously assessed as being a vulnerable adult
  6. The tenant’s capacity can fluctuate and due to the seriousness of the concerns, it is decided this is the most appropriate action
  7. The housing officer officially logs the case with the local authority Safeguarding Review Group as advised by No Whispers, due to the vulnerability of the tenant
  8. The housing officer shares the response from the local authority regarding the safeguarding concern with Progress Housing Group’s Safeguarding Review Group. The case is assessed and closed with no further action due to not meeting the threshold.
  9. Action taken on the case is logged with Progress Housing Group’s Safeguarding Review Group
  10. Case is closed and the outcome is logged with Progress Housing Group’s Safeguarding Review Group
  11. The housing officer continues to monitor the situation, but the tenant is reluctant to engage
