Sarah’s blog: “It was great to improve my knowledge around safeguarding and learn about individuals’ rights and legislation.”
Latest news
RWP housing officer Sarah has recently completed a level 2 TQUK qualification in the Principles of Working with and Supporting Individuals with Learning Disabilities.
“I wanted to get a more in-depth understanding of people that have a learning disability and the barriers they face, along with their families, and what support is available for them,” says Sarah.
Key learnings
“My key takeaways from the course included learning about the options available to people with a learning disability which helps them to make positive choices. Also, it was great to improve my knowledge around safeguarding. I learnt about individuals’ rights and legislation, and raising concerns.
I will be able to apply all that I learnt to my role as a housing officer. This includes adapting the way I communicate with tenants and their different needs. I would highly recommend this course to anyone looking for to increase their understanding of supporting people with a learning disability.
Flexible training course
“I researched training courses that were available and which I could do in my own time without it impacting my work or family time. Skills Network provided me with my own tutor who was available when I needed support, or if I was struggling with completing the assessments within the timeframes. I completed the course over three months on my iPad, and it was easily accessible. The learning platform was easy to navigate and allowed me to dip in and out and save work as I went along. It also prompted me with alerts so I could keep to my deadlines.
Continued professional development
“My aim this year is to complete similar courses so my knowledge will support me in my role. I would like to study for the qualification for CIH Level 3 certificate in Housing in the future.”
