Meet Janet
Janet has been living in one of our supported living homes in Leyland for 14 years. She shares her home with two other tenants, Julie and Jess.
Janet has been supported to become more independent at one of our supported living homes in Leyland. She enjoys spending time relaxing with her housemates Julie and Jess in the living room and whilst she is having her dinner in the kitchen.
Support staff at South Ribble Domiciliary Service support Janet with cooking meals and cleaning. She has developed the skills to prepare food, as well as helping to clear away the table mats after dinner. “I help making meals like sandwiches and I help with the cleaning,” says Janet.
Janet’s room
Janet has been helped by the support staff at South Ribble Domiciliary Service (including support manager Lesley and RWP housing officer Sarah) during a period of hoarding. She was helped to gradually make changes to her room which included replacing and moving furniture, tidying, and decluttering to make space. Sarah and the support staff had talks with Janet about why it is important to keep her room tidy. “You need to make sure that it is free from things in case there is a fire. It’s to help keep you and the other ladies safe,” says Lesley.
Janet is proud of these changes, and she likes her new wardrobe which is modern and functional. She says: “I have got more space, and it is bright. I have a certificate for a tidy room. It says well done - tidy room.” Janet is in the process of choosing a new chair for her room to replace her current one. She is looking at green chairs which is her preferred colour.
Janet’s interests
“I like swimming, and I like line dancing,” says Janet. She has been a member of a line dancing club and has enjoyed line dancing for over 10 years. She enjoys watching line dancing now as she has had to take a break for health reasons, and she likes to wear a cowboy hat and boots.
Janet enjoys drawing and colouring by numbers which help her to relax. She is looking forward to colouring with her new set of pens which RWP housing officer Sarah kindly gave to her. Janet likes to read books, and she is enjoying her current read which is a crime story. Janet has a passion for letter writing and has a local pen pal who she exchanges letters with, and she also writes letters to her family and friends.
Local community
Support staff have been taking trips with Janet into the local community, and helping her with household and food shopping, as well as visiting the local pub. They have made local trips recently in their new electric car, and she is pleased with the model, colour, and that it is electric.
