Meet Tom

“We were very fortunate, working together with two other families, to find a home in Oxfordshire through family-led commissioning. With RWP as our housing provider, we could choose a home for Tom where we believed he would be most happy and close to family and friends, and part of his community where he can enjoy all the activities he likes.

“We were delighted that RWP agreed to go ahead with our choice of house so that we could meet the needs of all our young people. It was a challenging time for Tom as he waited to move into supported living; something he had been prepared for before leaving college. It was however, well worth the wait!

“RWP has enabled Tom’s dream home to become a reality. Throughout the purchasing, adapting, and renovating processes, we had regular meetings and updates with the RWP team in online meetings. They shared plans, explained everything, asked for our input, and worked closely with us. We were part of the decision-making process throughout.

“Tom has settled in really well and enjoys living in his new house. He is very happy to return to the house after family time and, when given a choice, always chooses “Tom’s House”!

“Tom’s home is spacious, light and airy and adapted to meet everyone’s needs. The communal rooms are inviting with plenty of space for all the housemates, their support workers and visitors. The house feels modern and appropriate for three young people. We are delighted with Tom’s room. It also has a personal touch with his chosen colour for his feature wall.

“A section of the kitchen work surface was lowered so that Tom (who is not very tall) can participate in activities like food preparation. His ensuite bedroom has been beautifully renovated, and RWP listened to Tom’s needs in terms of a toilet being adapted to the right height for Tom and a suitable bath with handles.

“The garden has plenty of safe, flat, outdoor space suitable for a wide range of activities and a pergola to shelter from the sun or rain. This makes the space very usable throughout the year. The trees and plants are now beginning to flower, which makes this space even more attractive.
