RWP Tenant Committee holds its first meeting

Latest news

Our tenant committee is a group of tenant representatives and other members who come together to look at how we do things and what we need to do to get better.

Listening to people who live in our supported living accommodation is very important to us. Tenants can help us to get better at what we do.

Our tenant committee is a group of tenant representatives and other members who come together to look at how we do things and what we need to do to get better.

Tenant representatives Simon, John, David and Fiona will join with board members to look at the results of our tenant surveys. They will look at how we are doing as a landlord. They will also look at how we are doing in dealing with any complaints we get. This is the government’s way of finding out if we are being a good landlord.

As well as providing supported living properties to you, we are part of a Group that also provides homes to people who do not receive support. They too have their own tenant committee, called Progress Homes Tenant Committee. Both committees will have the chance to work together too.

Tenant committee buddies

Each tenant committee representative has their own buddy, someone who works with us and knows a lot about what we do. Each buddy will act as the tenant committee representatives support, helping them with their new exciting role.

Jenny, Marketing and Communications Manager, is Simon’s buddy. She says: “I was really excited to take up the opportunity to be a buddy for one of our new tenant representative committee members.

“I’ve been paired with Simon, and we have already had a couple of meetings to get to know each other better. He knows that I’m there to help him with any queries he may have with the tenant committee’s work.”

Our first RWP tenant committee meeting

At our first tenant committee meeting we discussed repairs and how we are looking to work with new repair contractors in 2025.  The views of tenant committee members will be taken into account when we interview our new contractors.

We also looked at good meeting behaviours and we all agreed how to make a meeting run well.

“We welcome our tenant representatives to the organisation and thank them for their commitment in helping us to establish our new tenant committee. We’re excited about the future ahead for RWP, and how we can use our tenant representatives’ lived experience to help drive improvements,” says Debbie Atherton, Executive Director (Governance, People and Communications).

Hear from our tenant representatives

Simon: “I had joined a previous committee to make housing better but that didn’t do enough. I found this committee and felt RWP is trying to do better. I wanted to make everything better as much as possible.”

David: “I was invited and encouraged to join based on my previous involvement to give tenants a voice. A memory that stands out from being involved with the Group was when I went down to London to meet a housing minister. It was a great opportunity.”

The next tenant committee meeting will be on 21 October online. We will keep you updated in our tenant newsletter about what the tenant committee do.
